This book is a mixed bag, but considering the obstacles to a good translation of 19th century Russian poetry, I consider it a real feat. I'll also admit that if my sense of the period had not been laid down so well by the prose novelists of the time, I would probably not have enjoyed these poems as much as I have/5.
